However, as with all things, the first time setup takes a little research and planning - as changes to some configuration settings, and other customisations, may be required depending on what you want the system to do. As newer products come out, I just download and substitute the latest VM, and if I mess things up then I can just revert back to the original VM. This means less time playing with configuration and upgrades (unless I want to). Although Oracle don’t ship or support any native server-based or database products for the Mac, Oracle’s pre-built VirtualBox VMs are a great way to trial new products and configurations hosted within a Linux-based virtual machine. And, as per my previous post it doubles as my media server.

I was only able to achieve 26 MBytes/sec from within VirtualBox/Catalina The file server with the 4TB SSD array is good up to 835 MBytes/sec transfer rate. The Win10 host has a 10GbE link to the switch that connects the media file servers.
I try not to touch my wife's MacBook Air that is on Mojave.Ģ-The other problem is that the Ethernet I/O performance is abysmal. Even after overcoming that problem, the serial-number-zero problem awaits for figuring how to get Logic installed, especially now that my most recent macOS versions in my real Macs are HiSierra. So, for now, not having an audio interface for the virtual machine is a showstopper. I tried using a USB-attached Midas MR18, and I couldn't get Catalina to recognize it either. So far, I've run in to two major obstacles:ġ- The MADI PCIe card for audio isn't visible to the VirtualBox environment.
